KBE Awarded Platinum STEP Award

FARMINGTON, Conn., July 3, 2012 — KBE Building Corporation received the Platinum STEP (Safety Training & Evaluation Process) Award from the National Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC). The award recognizes KBE’s regional offices in both Connecticut and Maryland.

The ABC National Environment Health & Safety Committee (EH&S) established the STEP program in 1989 to provide an analysis of safety and loss prevention programs, measure safety program improvements, and provide performance recognition. The STEP awards are separated into five categories: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond.

The criteria for the Platinum STEP Award include:

  • A total recordable incident rate 25% or more below the NAICS (North American Industrial Classification) code industry average.
  • A maintained Experience Modification Rate (EMR) of .800.
  • No OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) cited fatalities in the previous three years.
  • A meeting of the minimum 20 Key Components Score.

“We strive to preserve the highest safety precautions in every part of our corporation,” said KBE Principal and CEO Mike Kolakowski. “And we are exceptionally honored to once again receive this award as recognition for our hard work.”

The Associated Builders & Contractors has honored KBE with either a Platinum or Gold STEP Award every year since 2003.

Recently, KBE was also ranked within 2012’s Top 400 Contractors, as listed by Engineering News-Record. The annual list ranks contractors across the nation based upon contracting revenue. KBE moved up to #285 in 2012, from 308 in 2011.  In 2011, all of the contracting firms that made up the Top 400 list generated $282.14 billion in contracting revenue, an increase from 2010’s $259.41 billion.
