KBE Donates Books To Girls, Inc.

WATERBURY, Conn., July 16, 2012 — KBE Building Corporation donated over 400 books to the Waterbury, Connecticut location of Girls, Inc. of Southwestern Connecticut (Girls, Inc. of SWCT) on July 13, 2012.

This donation was part of KBE’s 50 Ways to Make a Difference program. The 50 Ways initiative is a yearlong charitable support program, which was recognized with a Community Service Award by the Connecticut Construction Industries Association in 2011. Through 50 Ways, KBE works with local community organizations to help make positive change in the communities where the firm works or its employees live. The campaign for the current year is focused on making a difference in the lives of children.  The books were collected by KBE employees at its home office in Farmington and at the Carrington Elementary School construction site, where the firm is building the new elementary school.

Girls, Inc. of Southwestern Connecticut is a non-profit affiliate of the national Girls Inc. headquarters in New York City, NY. Similar to the Girls Scouts in its mission to inspire young women, the organization offers summer and after school programs where each girl can learn, explore, create, interact with their peers, and overcome any challenges. The agency provides support to young women living in areas from greater Greenwich to greater Waterbury.

While presenting the books to the girls, KBE’s Jason Menard, Cora Harkins, and Tony Mancini held a Q&A session, where they responded to the girls’ questions about construction and design/build work, including the firm’s current construction of the nearby Carrington Elementary School.

“Not only is the continued support of this community important to us as the contractor for the Carrington School,” said KBE President and CEO Mike Kolakowski, “but our 50 Ways Committee chose this program specifically because of its mission to empower young girls in Waterbury and the surrounding communities.”
