Merit Shop Philosophy

With nearly 60 years of experience in construction services, KBE Building Corporation is one of the region’s largest and most successful merit shop contractors. We are committed to providing our clients and the contracting community with open, unrestricted competition in trade contractor bidding. All trade contractors that meet KBE’s mandatory Prequalification process are invited to bid our projects, regardless of union or non-union status.

This gives KBE – as well as our clients – exceptional flexibility and economic benefits when bidding projects, and enables us to reach out to all qualified subcontractors without discrimination. Through this approach, KBE is able to meet our clients’ needs for open shop, union, small business and minority business participation on a given project.

With a project labor force that routinely reflects a mixture of both union and non-union workers, KBE encourages all qualified contractors to bid and collaborate on our projects. When clients designate that a project is reserved exclusively for union contractors, we honor that choice.

KBE has achieved regional prominence through the dedication and hard work that is displayed on every project, as well as the many collaborative efforts with such qualified and integral trade contractors. As an award-winning organization, KBE is honored by the hundreds of clients that have continually selected us for their construction projects.

Testimonials:

We particularly appreciated the daily interaction between your team and our facilities and dining hall staff as we worked through changes on the project while under construction.  Your staff was remarkably amendable to last-minute changes and to helping us resolve the carious issues that arise on any construction project.
