Building a NASCAR Racetrack Inside the L.A. Coliseum — Then Tearing It All Out

When NASCAR called, we built a racetrack where no racetrack had gone before.

For three years running, KBE Building Corporation has delivered one of the most ambitious event build-outs in sports construction: transforming the historic L.A. Memorial Coliseum into a quarter-mile NASCAR racetrack for the Busch Light Clash exhibition event — and dismantling it just days later.

It’s a feat of speed, precision, and coordination that few firms could pull off. And we did it three times.

A Track Built for the World Stage

From the start, the challenge was clear. Convert a century-old, open-air Olympic stadium into a high-performance short track in less than 6 weeks — and ensure every inch met NASCAR’s strict racing and safety standards.

Each year, KBE mobilized an elite team of field supervisors, project managers, and subcontractors to lead the fast-track build:

  • Laid 1,500+ tons of paving for a precise quarter-mile oval track inside a structure never designed to host it.

  • Installed barriers, safety walls, signage, lighting, and infield platforms to meet race day requirements.

  • Coordinated with national broadcast crews and race engineers to ensure timing, camera angles, and access were fully optimized.

Then, with the engines cooled and the grandstands empty, we tore it all out — returning the Coliseum to its original condition within days. Built for performance. Designed for impermanence.

Delivering the Impossible, On Repeat

The real story of this project isn’t just the engineering — it’s the trust NASCAR placed in KBE. From 2022 through 2024, we refined and repeated the process, streamlining each build for even faster turnarounds and stronger results.

Our work on the Busch Light Clash demonstrates what KBE does best:

  • Mobilize fast

  • Deliver under pressure

  • Coordinate complex teams across national markets

  • Lead with confidence in the field

As NASCAR continues to reimagine how — and where — racing happens, KBE stands ready to build the impossible. Again and again.
